Last week during the celebration of the 2018 International Women’s Day event, Kisumu women in Business came together under the consortium of WISE (Women In Sustainable Entreprises) and Inbox Africa in collaboration with the County Government of Kisumu through Business, Trade and Energy department.
WISE is an organization that empowers women around the Lake Victoria region in Kenya through alternative sustainable enterprises development and leadership trainings while InBOX Africa is a Business Advisory and Consultancy firm based in Kisumu that aims to spur and nurture entrepreneurs by providing access to useful resources and linkages that accelerate growth.
The function was a precursor to the International Women’s Day and it was held under the theme of “#PressForProgress”.
Other partners that supported the event include, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kisumu Chapter, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Kisumu Network, Gretta Adult Learning Center, Rotary Club of Kisumu, Dazzli Beauty and Barber Shop and Mondo Ride Kenya-Kisumu Office.
This is event was a launch pad towards building a solid network for women in business and entrepreneurship in Kisumu. The event also served as a precursor to the upcoming Winam Investment Summit (WIS) 2018 which will be is a preeminent annual entrepreneurship gathering that will convene emerging entrepreneurs, investors and supporters from the Lake Basin Region and it will be held on the 28th-30th November 2018.
The summit seeks to attract and retain investment capital in the Lake Region that has been negatively profiled for the longest period of time.
The Summit will be held under the theme of “Enhancing Trade, Unleashing Investment and Spurring Economic Development”. WIS 2018 will create an environment that empowers and invests in local innovators, particularly the youth and women, to take their ideas to the next level.
Through networking, mentoring, and workshops, WIS will empower entrepreneurs in the region to be able to innovate, pitch their ideas, build partnerships, secure funding, and find their target customers thus creating new goods and services that will transform the Region.
The consortium, is currently calling upon the relevant stakeholders in Government, Corporate, development partners and Investors to rally behind the summit’s agenda.
